The East West Rail scheme will re-establish a rail link between Cambridge and Oxford to improve connections between East Anglia and central, southern and western England.
The NIC has recommended that the Government commit to delivering the Western Section of the East-West Rail project before the end of 2024, bringing forward £100 million of funding to avoid delay and commit up to £10 million in development funding to continue work on the Central section.
The East West Rail new link will cut journey times by more than half on the route from Oxford to Bedford and Milton Keynes. Through further investment and development the next phase of East West Rail is to complete the link to Cambridge creating a new Oxford-Cambridge Expressway.
